In the garden of Gethsemane when the mob came to arrest Him, Christ said “this is your hour and the power of darkness”.
Peter, who quickly drew his sword and whipped off the ear of the high priest’s servant, was told, “put your sword back in its sheath, for they that live by the sword will die by the sword”. Jesus immediately, effortlessly released His hands, that had been bound firmly on the betrayer's advice, and He healed the wounded ear.
Peter and all of the disciples fled the scene, and when they later appeared near the action, he denied His LORD 3 times.
In the last chapter of John we read the account of the beach scene, where after enjoying a lovely breakfast prepared by the LORD of heaven and earth, the disciples witnessed the 3 fold tests of Christ for Peter’s 3 denials. As they walked along the beach he received another reprimand for his continual running ahead of the LORD - “what is that to thee, follow thou Me”.
In his epistle we read the success of the many appeals of Christ to impetuous Peter, he says,
“For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” 1Peter 2:19-25
