Throughout history those who have been faithful to God have very often been perilously few.
3,023 Jews were taken captive at the same time as Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego. These captives were specifically chosen for the education, skills and abilities that they possessed and that would be advantageous to Nebuchadnezzar & his kingdom.
Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego - these young men stood true to God, from the eating of the king’s food (Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego, Daniel 1), the interpretation of the king’s dream (Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego, Daniel 2), the fiery furnace (Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego Daniel 3); the interpretation of the king’s dream (Daniel, Daniel 4); the interpretation of the writing on the wall (Daniel, Daniel 5) right through to the lion’s den (Daniel, Daniel 6).
2 Kings 24:14 tells us that 10,000 captives were taken, and Jeremiah 52:28-30 tells us that there were 4,600 (3,023 + 832 + 745) taken altogether. These figures do not include the common citizens of Judah who may have been taken captive also.
Out of all these Jewish captives, only 4 stood for God and His truth.
Where were all the others?
