Many a genuine young man has been rejected by the young woman whom he wished to marry because she thought that she could find a better husband, hence missing the the blessing of all the love that he was prepared to give forever to her. Her choice in this matter would have no doubt been influenced by many factors, the most likely reason being, what people would think - parents, friends, peers, society - then feelings, money, appearance, and in fact, an unlimited number of reasons. It is safe to say that no one enjoys rejection but these young men could look back and be very thankful that they were rejected before the vows were taken, as interesting characteristics were later revealed.
Some women have married and then as the time passed by decided that they are not satisfied, for whatever reason, with their husband. Against the law of God, but looking out to the world for justification, they then decide that it is acceptable to seek another husband, a better one, who will fulfil their perceived desires. There have been some very sad outcomes for many women who have chosen either of these ways to decide their future happiness.
Both of these scenarios are unfortunately all too true as they apply to Christ and His chosen Bride. He has suffered rejection and sadly watched on as the pull of other things in this world have caused His bride to be drawn away to seek something that they think will be better than Him. The entire Scriptures are a sad record of what His professed people, whom He wanted to marry and stay married to forever, have been drawn away by.
Take the time to consider carefully the history and also if there could really be a better proposition than the one that He offers? Could there actually be anyone better than Him to be found anywhere in the Universe? Consider all of His names, all of His attributes and all of His power.
For thy Maker is thine Husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall He be called. Isaiah 54:5
How can we do this to Him? What an insult to the God of all creation.
Let us accept His gracious proposal now as the time has come when His desire will be fulfilled; “His wife hath made herself ready”.
