With His Stripes

I gave My back to the smiters, and My cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not My face from shame and spitting. Isaiah 50:6

There stood the Son of God, wearing the robe of mockery and the crown of thorns. Stripped to the waist, His back showed the long, cruel stripes, from which the blood flowed freely. His face was stained with blood, and bore the marks of exhaustion and pain; but never had it appeared more beautiful than now. The Saviour’s visage was not marred before His enemies. Every feature expressed gentleness and resignation and the tenderest pity for His cruel foes. In His manner there was no cowardly weakness, but the strength and dignity of long-suffering. DA 734

Pray that the mighty energies of the Holy Spirit, with all their quickening, recuperative, and transforming power, may fall like an electric shock on the palsy-stricken soul, causing every nerve to thrill with new life, restoring the whole man from his dead, earthly, sensual state to spiritual soundness. You will thus become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust; and in your souls will be reflected the image of Him by whose stripes you are healed.  2TT 100

The history of this time has recorded that the Roman lash consisted of 13 platted leather  thongs with metal and/or bone fragments incorporated into the end of each one of them.

And shall deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify Him.

Matthew 20:19

And they shall scourge Him, and put Him to death. Luke 18:33

Victims received 39 lashings when a flogging was ordered.  It was considered that 40 lashings would cause the death of the condemned and this was not the desired result, but rather to inflict the maximum torture possible.

With His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 Old Testament witness.

By whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 New Testament witness.

My Affirmation:

Unless I take the responsibility for His stripes, I cannot be healed. It was me and my sins, who caused Him to receive those stripes.

When I make those stripes mine, He can heal me completely.

Our love to Christ will be in proportion to the depth of our conviction of sin. FW 96.
