With His Stripes...

I gave My back to the smiters,
and My cheeks to them that plucked off the hair:
I hid not My face from shame and spitting. Isaiah 50:6

There stood the Son of God, wearing the robe of mockery and the crown of thorns. Stripped to the waist, His back showed the long, cruel stripes, from which the blood flowed freely. His face was stained with blood, and bore the marks of exhaustion and pain; but never had it appeared more beautiful than now. The Saviour’s visage was not marred before His enemies. Every feature expressed gentleness and resignation and the tenderest pity for His cruel foes. In His manner there was no cowardly weakness, but the strength and dignity of long-suffering. DA 734

Pray that the mighty energies of the Holy Spirit, with all their quickening, recuperative, and transforming power, may fall like an electric shock on the palsy-stricken soul, causing every nerve to thrill with new life, restoring the whole man from his dead, earthly, sensual state to spiritual soundness. You will thus become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust; and in your souls will be reflected the image of Him by whose stripes you are healed. 2TT 100

The history of this time has recorded that the Roman lash consisted of 13 platted leather thongs with metal and/or bone fragments incorporated into the end of each one of them.

And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him.
Matthew 20:19
And they shall scourge him, and put him to death. Luke 18:33

When a flogging was ordered the victims received 39 lashings. It was considered that 40 lashings would cause the death of the condemned and as this was not the desired result, but rather to inflict torture, they stopped just short.

And when he had again scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified. DA 738

With His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 Old Testament witness.

By whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 New Testament witness.

We are not to speak lightly of anything that His death has made honourable.
The gospel brings not only spiritual healing but also physical healing.
Until I take responsibility and realise that those stripes are mine, I cannot be healed, He cannot heal me.
Yes, it was because of me and my sins that He had to suffer the indescribable agony of those stripes, whilst also at the same time carrying the full weight of the entire sins of the whole world, past, present and future.
Before the day ended He would have to endure much, much more agony that I inflicted upon Him.

Unless we are crucified with Him, His death and resurrection profit us nothing. (Galatians 2:20)
In the lake of fire the anguish that they suffer is only what Christ suffered for them on the cross, but they chose to reject Him; the only One who could save them from their sins.
